Green Party candidate Howie Hawkins is planning his third run for governor and expects a formal announcement in the coming weeks.
Hawkins can’t even remember how many elections he’s run in, he estimates between 20 and 25.
Most recently, Hawkins was in a four-way race for Mayor of Syracuse. Hawkins came in third after winner Ben Walsh (D) and Juanita Perez-Williams (D).
He beat Republican Laura Lavine.
Hawkins has run for governor two times before, in 2010 and 2014, being beaten by Governor Andrew Cuomo twice.
Hawkins says the Green positions have forced Cuomo to move toward their position on several issues including tuition-free college and the minimum wage.
Hawkins will remind Cuomo of those positions and the trial involving his former aides.
Hawkins will have more time for this campaign. He retired from his overnight shift at UPS in January.
