SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — On Friday, October 18, 2019, law dignitaries, community members and the family of William Herbert Johnson packed the Onondaga County Courthouse for the posthumous honor of William Herbert Johnson, the first African American student to graduate from Syracuse University’s College of Law. In 1903, Johnson was denied admittance to the New York State Bar because of his race. Now, 116 years later, that has changed. Watch Part Two of Jennifer Sanders’ Hidden History above.
