The Onondaga Historical Association has honored the man who has led the restoration of the old Hotel Syracuse with its highest award.
Ed Riley had been recognized with the OHA Medal, which has been awarded only a few dozen times since the organization formed in 1863.
Riley tells NewsChannel 9, “It’s just humbling and very gratifying to get this award, and also to understand a big part of this was to recognize all the people who have done this.”
OHA Executive Director Gregg Tripoli says, “It’s inextricably linked to the history of our community and we almost lost it, so I think what Ed has done and how he’s put the team together to bring this back to life, to really serve the community in so many ways is remarkable.”
The new Marriott Syracuse Downtown is scheduled to open in July.
