Hundreds of protesters marched in a Syracuse “Families belong together” rally in solidarity with dozens of other similar events across the country.
The protests are against President Trump’s immigration policies and the detainment of families along the U.S.-Mexican border.
“This is a moment where the fight for immigrant rights is at a crossroads and we need to push forward and not just demand the release of the families that have been detained, but actually demand a much freer border policy,” Nagesh Rao, a Colgate University professor and one of the protests’ speakers, said.
The Workers Center of Central New York helped organize the protest.
Similar events were held locally in Geneva and Cortland.
