CICERO, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — More than 900 student-athletes from all over Central New York participated in a day-long Special Olympics track and field event.
The athletes competed in a softball throw, running events and standing long-jump that took place at Cicero-North Syracuse High School.
There was also an adapted events area for kids using walkers or wheelchairs.
The event is all about promoting fitness and helping students to develop self-confidence, discipline, and self-esteem.
“Outside of the inclusive programs that we now have, so this is their big day…their Section III meet, their state championship. They train for this and they practice for this,” said coordinator Fina Santangelo.
Great job and congrats to all the student-athletes who participated!
