An iconic office supply on Main Street in downtown Cortland will be closing its doors for the last time in the next few weeks.
Mullen Office Outfitters has been in the city for nearly 105 years. Its owner, Fritz Mullen, has been running it for 70.
The 94-year old decided to close while he can still “walk and talk” he said.
“It’s a new experience because I always tried to stay in business instead of closing up,” Mullen said. “But it’s working out.”
Mullen’s father and uncle were the original owners of the store. Over the years, it’s survived major changes in the Cortland as other shops have come and gone, including Staples, which shut down over the summer.
Mullen said his customers are what he’ll miss the most.
“[It’s] time to try something else,” Mullen said. “It’s an unknown, but everyone goes through it.”
