SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — It was a gathering of clergy rarely seen outside of the Vatican: One cardinal, 20 bishops, 20 priests and dozens of deacons were all here for the one bishop-elect, who is now bishop of the Syracuse diocese.
Those clergy members packed into the newly renovated Cathedral and Cardinal Timothy Dolan, the Archbishop of New York, did the honors, presenting Bishop Douglas Lucia with his Bishop’s rings, the miter to wear on his head and his staff to shepherd his flock of Catholics.
As Bishop, Lucia gave his first homily to the crowd of a thousand people and he knows many of their favorite color.
Bishop Lucia said he doesn’t want the day to be about him. He wants it to be an example of the Catholic Church at its best.
