PHOENIX, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — A big fan of firefighters from Phoenix is making new friends.
14-year-old Joey Abt was able to meet a friend from Facebook and a fireman from Louisiana. Thursday afternoon, Abt met Timmy Richardson from Buffalo. Richardson became an internet sensation while battling cancer.
He wore 30 shirts from 30 different fire departments from around the country for his 30 days of chemotherapy last year. The two have been communicating online. Abt also met Ryan Mast, a fireman from Louisiana who runs marathons in full fire gear.
Mast is in New York this week because he is going to be running a half marathon in Buffalo while pushing Timmy Richardson in a chariot.
He was able to get the equipment needed through a group called Ainsley’s Angels.
“Watching the brotherhood of fire departments coming together and taking (Joey) in as one of ours is just heart-warming,” said Mast. “So it is just a big conglomerate of three guys that never knew each other and now here we are, loving every second.”
Ryan says he is going to be making a trip back here and will find a race where he can push Joey.
