Judge asked not to jail Shoppingtown Mall owner

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — The owners of the former Macy’s at Shoppingtown Mall on Monday wrote to the judge withdrawing their request for the court to commit mall owner Steve Maksin to jail.

Erie LLC is amending its filing with State Supreme Court Judge Anthony Paris to hold Shoppingtown Mall in contempt of court.

Erie LLC is now only seeking the imposition of a fine against Shoppingtown.

The mall has ignored the Judge’s deadline to pay nearly $10 million in back taxes to Onondaga County.

Erie LLC sued and won its case against Shoppingtown Mall In May. They claim the Mall’s failure to pay its taxes is not only making it difficult to redevelop the Macy’s part of the mall, but also putting it in imminent jeopardy of being lost to the county.
