Judge Leticia Astacio was arraigned Tuesday afternoon for the attempted purchase of a gun at Dick’s Sporting Goods last week.
Last week, deputies said Astacio had attempted to buy a shotgun at Dick’s Sporting Goods in Henrietta.
Deputies said they responded to the store after an employee denied the sale and turned the information over to probation.
At the time, however, deputies wouldn’t say if Astacio was prohibited from owning a gun under the terms of her probation — a common restriction for people on probation. She is charged with attempted criminal purchase or disposal of a weapon.
Astacio has been on probation following her arrest for drunk driving in 2016.
Astacio also hasn’t shown up for work as a judge in weeks. However, she still collects her paycheck and even got a raise recently along with other city judges, according to WROC-TV.
She is currently in the midst of a ten-year term and only the state Judicial Commission can remove her from the bench. The commission has yet to act on the situation.
Astacio was released after arraignment.
