NEW YORK STATE (WSYR-TV) — If you have a worn-out American flag, that you would like to respectfully get rid of, Wednesday is the deadline to drop one off for the annual Watchfire at the fairgrounds.
Thousands of worn and tattered flags are collected every year from across the state. It is a tradition organized by the state Division of Veterans Affairs to help people who don’t know how to properly retire a flag.
The Watchfire is this Sunday at dusk at the state fairgrounds.
Flags are being collected at the following locations:
- Senator John J. Hughes State Office Building, 333 E. Washington St., Syracuse
- New York State Fairgrounds (Gate 2 Security Station), 581 State Fair Boulevard, Syracuse
