GEDDES, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — The drive home from graduation was a smooth one, but it was a different story on the way in, with bumper to bumper traffic, some waiting an hour at minimum to get from I-690 to the Fairgrounds.
“Far worse than fair traffic. I’ve never waited an hour and we’re right in the heart of Syracuse, we live in the heart of Syracuse. So we’re seven minutes from here from door to door. Never waited this long at the fair,” said Kim Courcy.
Le Moyne switched things up this year after moving away from the War Memorial seven years ago.
“We decided to switch in part because of the unpredictability of mother nature but also because we want to be more embedded in the community of Syracuse,” said Dr. Linda LeMura, President of Le Moyne College.
The Expo Center gives them more room too, holding 7,000 guests
“It was a better venue, it was easier. I didn’t have to worry about the weather,” Courcy said.
And though some are upset with the audio in the center, and the traffic to get there, they say it’s still a better option than being outside on the college campus.
“Of course we have to get some of the bugs out, but in light of the fact that we’re Le Moyne College, we’re very nimble, and we’ll learn from it and make it even better next year,” LeMura said.
“Hey, when you have a grandchild graduating from college, it’s really all good,” Rick Rudd said.
