Liverpool Central School District Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Mark Potter, announced the site for this year’s Liverpool High School commencement ceremony. Students will be graduating at the New York State Fairground’s Exposition Center on Saturday, June 22, beginning at 10 a.m.
Last June, Liverpool was the first school to hold its high school graduation at the Lakeview Ampitheater.
Potter said there were some issues with that location including the way the sun hits audience, the walk up to the stage, and the limited availability for a spot on the schedule at Lakeview. Potter applied for Liverpool’s graduation back in December, but hasn’t heard back. Not wanting to leave parents on the hook any longer, he chose the Expo Center as the new venue.
“The facility, the parking, being able to dress our kids here, access for folks who are perhaps disabled or handicapped–a lot of upsides to this building,” Potter said.

Although many family members may now be missing out on a milestone because of the delay, Potter is excited to make use of the Expo Center, giving a unique experience for the students. He hopes to sign a contract there for their 2020 graduation, too.
The Great New York State Fair director responded to this decision in a statement.
“We’re pleased that Liverpool’s graduation ceremony will take place in our beautiful new Expo Center,” said Troy Waffner, Fair Director. “From graduations to trade shows to special events, the Governor’s investment in the Expo Center is paying big dividends quickly for Upstate New York and giving the community a new and convenient place to come together.”
