MADISON COUNTY, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Recognizing the men and women who’ve gone above and beyond, especially during a year of covid challenges. Madison County Sheriff’s deputies and employees were honored on Wednesday for the work they did in 2020.
They investigated crimes, saved lives, and improved the work environment in their office and in the jail. Deputy Aaron Silverman was recognized as the Deputy of the Year.
Today, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office held its 2020 Awards Ceremony recognizing outstanding work by the men and women in its Criminal, Corrections, and Civil divisions.
Below are the awards and who received them:
𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐝 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝: Is awarded to a member, Division or Unit to recognize significant, notable or distinctive contribution to a successful conclusion of a significant criminal investigation or the achievement of outstanding efforts made by a member of a particular unit or division.

𝑳𝒊𝒇𝒆 𝑺𝒂𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑴𝒆𝒅𝒂𝒍: May be awarded by the Sheriff to a person whose direct actions contributed to the saving of a life.

- Ryan Collins & John Nowak
𝑺𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒇𝒇’𝒔 𝑺𝒕𝒂𝒓: May be awarded by the Sheriff to a sworn member in good standing for unprecedented acts of heroism characterized by resolute fearlessness, fortitude, endurance and self-sacrifice above and beyond the call of duty; OR, unwavering determination and commitment to resolve a serious community threat and/or selfless acts on a continuous basis that brings great credit to the Sheriff’s Office and Madison County.

𝑀𝑒𝑑𝑎𝑙 𝑜𝑓 𝑉𝑎𝑙𝑜𝑟: May be awarded to a person in good standing for acts of heroism in the face of personal injury and risk of life, outstanding gallantry, conspicuous action, reacting in a manner as to bring great credit upon themselves, the office and/or the community. Performance must have been performed with marked distinction.

𝑪𝒉𝒂𝒊𝒓𝒎𝒂𝒏’𝒔 𝑴𝒆𝒅𝒂𝒍: Upon the recommendation of the Sheriff, may be awarded by the Madison County Chairman of the Board to a person who distinguishes themselves with great commitment to the betterment of the men and women of the Sheriff’s Office and/or the Citizens of Madison County.

𝑶𝒇𝒇𝒊𝒄𝒆𝒓 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒀𝒆𝒂𝒓: May be awarded by the Sheriff to a Corrections Officer who has continually demonstrated performance at or above that which is expected and conducts themselves in a manner which lends to the betterment of themselves and their fellow officers.

𝑫𝒆𝒑𝒖𝒕𝒚 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒀𝒆𝒂𝒓: May be awarded by the Sheriff to a Deputy Sheriff who has continually demonstrated performance at or above that which is expected and conducts themselves in a manner which lends to the betterment of themselves and their fellow deputies.
