SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — A busy holiday this weekend for the Marriot Syracuse and other restaurants downtown known for their brunches on Easter and Mother’s Day.
“We do rely on these holidays from a profit perspective, it’s not the most profitable stuff we do by any means. It’s more about having the families in and the exposure to the community,” said Jon Mathews, Hotel Manager for Marriott Syracuse Downtown.
Those at the hotel have been prepping for the holiday weekend for weeks and they’re expecting around 800 guests. Those guests, Mathews said, will be visiting all the hot spots in town and the nearly 200,000 people who stay there each year do the same.
“We’ve got so much going on in Syracuse right now that you know, we’re really proud to be down at the center of it and being able to host an awful lot of people a year,” Mathews said.
Something those at the hotel didn’t see in the early 2000s when it closed its doors. But now, with modern changes, visitors are still enjoying its historic past.
“We’re part of stories and people coming back seeing this brought back to life as it were after its, sort of derelict period, it’s really special for the community,” Mathews said.
The brunch at Marriott Syracuse Downtown will last from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the Grand Ballroom.
