Wednesday morning was special for Mayor Ben Walsh, who added his signature to a book signed by all 52 people to serve as Mayor of Syracuse.
The book was first signed in 1848 by Syracuse’s first mayor, Harvey Baldwin.
Walsh becomes the second Walsh in the book, but first second-generation mayor from the same family. Ben’s grandfather, William Walsh, held the job from 1961 to 1969.
The book is maintained by the Onondaga Historical Association and is on display when the museum is open. Hours are Wednesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Walsh is considered the 54th mayor, because two mayors in the 1800s served non-consecutive terms.
