Going to feel like January for awhile…
The trough of cold air dropping into the east Friday and Saturday will take an even bigger plunge to the south of us much of next week. This will mean a January feel for CNY instead of November and several opportunities for at least minor widespread snows followed by some lake snow. This unusually cold weather pattern will probably be sticking around for at least a week or so.
While the eastern half of the United States turns colder with the jet stream pushing south of CNY and the Northeast, there will be a big ridge out west where they will see lots of warmth and dry weather which they don’t need with the wildfires.
There are early signs that the extreme November cold expected next week could ease and the trough of cold air MAY pull out of the east and CNY next weekend or the following week. Stay tuned for updates in the days to come.
The time is now to get prepared for winter
Bottom line, it’s probably a good idea to get the winter tires put on the vehicle, find the snow brush and ice scraper and have the snowblower and shovels ready to go! Old Man Winter is waking up.
Will this November in CNY rival last November? We are not so sure about that, but it certainly will be feeling and looking like winter around here soon. Last November Syracuse ended up with nearly 2 feet of snow, making it the 4th snowiest November on record.
It was also the coldest November ever felt in Syracuse too! The average temperature in November was only 34.5° which is over 6 degrees below average! Last November also feature the only below zero temperature ever recorded in November when the temperature dipped to -1° on the morning of the 23rd for the Black Friday shoppers!
Let’s hope November 2019 isn’t as extreme as last November but it does look like some unusual cold with at least some limited snow is on the way. Stay tuned for updates on the cold and chances of snow coming over the next several days.
