It seems like prices are going up on everything, except one thing.

There has been so much competition from supermarkets that food prices have actually started to drop.

Looking at the index for inflation when it comes to food all the way back to 1959 you have to go to the late 1950s to see a food price drop similar to what we saw last year.

In 1959 the food prices dropped 2.5%

Thanks to competition from Walmart, Aldi and now Amazon, prices dropped 1.3% last year.

Financial adviser Rick Reagan sees food prices increasing a bit this year, but not an awful lot.  Things should be held in check by increasing supermarket competition.
