CENTRAL NEW YORK (WSYR-TV) — An original drama based on the life of legendary boxer and local athlete, Carmen Basilio, will begin filming in Central New York this summer.
The film, called “Basilio,” looks at his life beginning as a boy in the onion fields of Canastota.
It also looks at his refusal to deal with the mob and his main event fights, like his win against Sugar Ray Robinson at Yankee Stadium in 1957.
Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon says the movie is a good boost for the future of the film industry in our area.
“This is an area where it’s taken a while for that ecosystem to develop so we can have lots of movies here, but it’s happening and there’s investment being made and there’s the infrastructure to be able to film these movies here at various facilities in the community now,” McMahon said.
An open casting call will be held right here in Central New York. Those interested in scheduling an audition should send a headshot and resume to Lauren Felasco, Director of Media Relations, email@example.com. To be considered, respond as soon as possible.
