Nearly 1,000 people walk miles for loved ones who died by suicide

LIVERPOOL, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - The sun came out just in time today for the annual Out of the Darkness event in memory of those lost to suicide. The director of the walk said this year was the biggest turnout they've seen in more than a decade.

"I'm really proud of our community as a whole and I think it means that we're doing something right. That we're spreading the word and that we're making it known that it's okay--we just have to find a way to fix it," said Stacy Green, Director of Out of the Darkness Walk.

While the walk brings everyone together, those involved are hoping the circumstances change soon. Though the event was free, all proceeds go straight to The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
