NEW YORK STATE (WSYR-TV) — Funding has been secured for cashless tolling all across New York State. Governor Andrew Cuomo says the state is investing more than $355 million into the project.
Instead of pulling up to a toll window, drivers will go under a gantry, which reads an E-Z Pass or license plate, and then sends a bill to the attached address. You’ll even be able to drive through at higher speeds, unlike the five-mile-per-hour limit currently at the tolls.
All 52 Thruway interchanges and barriers will be swapped for the new system by the end of 2020.
