New York State schools facing shortage of bus drivers

Local News

Many school districts in New York State are facing a shortage of bus drivers, according to reports from two state transportation associations.

60 percent of school transportation directors say the shortage is a top concern.

The cause has been attributed to new state requirements that make getting a commercial drivers license more expensive and time consuming.

Some districts have been forced to put mechanics on driving duty.

This issue has caused longer bus rides, late pickups and even cancelled field trips.
