A tollbooth along the New York State Thruway in Salina was briefly closed Friday morning after a fire truck caught fire.

Deputy Chief Jason Ormsby with the Liverpool Fire Department says the driver, who was having brake trouble, smelled smoke, but had trouble bringing the fire truck to a stop, eventually ending up behind a building just off Exit 36, near the I-81 interchange.

The fire caused extensive damage to the fire truck, and two Thruway Authority vehicles parked nearby.

Ormsby says because there was a substantial release of oil, the Department of Environmental Conservation is assisting with cleanup.

The fire truck, originally from Kansas City, was being delivered by a third party broker to a fire department in Canada.

The driver was not hurt.
