SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — The state fair is 47 days away, but for those itching to get out to the fairgrounds, you can get a head start during the Fourth (and Fifth) A’Fair. It’s the first of its kind happening just outside the Expo Center at the fairgrounds Thursday and Friday.
For the first time in several years, the fair is hosting a firework show Friday night. But before that, visitors can head there for rides, games, and food Thursday.
NYS Fair Director, Troy Waffner wanted to give another affordable option for the community for their Independence Day celebrations. Showcasing the new additions to the fairgrounds but also kicking off the Salt City Comic-Con happening there this weekend.
“One thing we always want it to be is a place for community events and a place where we can bring people in who don’t have to spend a lot of money. You know, whether it’s Winter Fair or whether it’s the 4th and 5th A’fair,” Waffner said.
The goal is to build the event up over the coming years so it becomes a mini-fair before the main event each August.
The A’Fair is taking place from until 10 p.m. Thursday. It picks back up from 1-10 p.m. Friday outside the Expo Center. Admission and parking are free.
