Oneida County Sheriff’s Office investigating drowning on Delta Lake

Local News

ONEIDA COUNTY, N.Y (WSYR-TV) — Oneida County Sheriff’s Deputies have identified the man whose body was pulled from Delta Lake north of Rome.

Investigators tell us that someone found their friend dead in the water under a canoe around 12 p.m. Wednesday. That man has since been identified as Ronald Pocchiari, 65, of Lee.

Deputies say they were first notified by worried family members.

“That family went out looking for him, as he should have been home. And when they went out, they knew where he canoes normally and they saw the overturned canoe and notified authorities,” said Oneida County Undersheriff Joseph Lisi.

The investigation is still in its early stages, but Sheriff’s deputies say the man’s death does not appear to be criminal.
