Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney says her team at the Health Department is monitoring Skaneateles Lake every day, where toxic blue-green algae has been discovered on the water’s surface.
Drinking water is being tested in three places: two intake pipes and from a faucet.
The City of Syracuse and portions of the towns of DeWitt, Onondaga and Geddes, get drinking water from Skaneateles Lake.
As of Tuesday, no drinking water has been contaminated. The algae has only been confirmed on the water’s surface, far away from the intake pipes.
Mahoney wants to assure the community that the water quality is being watched closely and there are plans in place no matter what the outcome of the daily water tests.
