UPDATE: Over-the-air viewers able to now watch NewsChannel 9

UPDATE: As of 9:56 p.m., viewers can see NewsChannel 9 again. The transmitter was fixed and the power restored, allowing NewsChannel 9 to broadcast to our over-the-air again.


POMPEY, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — A power outage at NewsChannel 9’s transmitter site in Pompey has caused a temporary outage for over-the-air viewers.

National Grid’s transformer that powers the transmitter and surrounding neighborhood has failed, causing loss of power to the area.

National Grid crews tell NewsChannel 9 they expect power to be restored around 9 p.m. Wednesday.

The majority of NewsChannel 9’s viewers, receiving the signal from Spectrum cable, New Visions cable, Verizon Fios are not affected. Those that have DISH satellite are also affected.

NewsChannel 9’s local broadcasts are always available and streamed online at LocalSYR.com.
