Parents have called the situation a district crisis. Dozens of neighbors in the West Genesee School District packed Wednesday night’s school board meeting.
A meeting in which embattled Superintendent Dr. Chris Brown, did not attend. Brown announced on January 3, he’s taking time away from daily duties. The district has been investigating a Facebook post from Brown’s wife, claiming that he’s leaving her for someone who works for him.
“Mr. Brown has been an kind of an embarrassment to the community,” one person said Wednesday night.
Wednesday night, more than 100 people filled the library asking for the latest on the investigation. The school board members couldn’t legally answer many of the questions, but made clear it will not rush this investigation.
“Regardless of what you all think of this situation, these people are due due-process,” said Shawn Mitchell, Vice-President of the West Genesee School Board. “They are entitled to it and I would hope that if any of you are in any situation in this world, that you are given it as well.”
According to the school board, the investigation is being conducted by the firm that represents the school board. It does not represent the district.
The school board will make the decision on whether to share the findings of the investigation when it is complete.
School Board members said up until this investigation, Dr. Brown had an “exemplary record” with the district.
