Police have arrested an Endwell man accused of trying to set fire to a Johnson City apartment building with Molotov cocktails.
Johnson City Police responded to a Grand Avenue multi-family apartment building around 4:45 p.m. on Monday after receiving reports of a man attempting to set the building on fire.
The suspect, Belven Fajardo, 42, had left the scene by the time police had arrived, but they found evidence that Fajardo had used two Molotov cocktails in an attempt to set the building on fire.
Police say the incident was domestic violence related, and was an escalation of an unreported domestic dispute that happened earlier on Monday, in which it was alleged that Fajardo had damaged the victim’s cell phone.
Fajardo was located at his Endwell residence and arrested without incident.
He was charged with attempted arson in the 1st degree, a felony, and criminal mischief in the 4th degree, a misdemeanor.
He was arraigned and taken to the Broome County Jail without bail.
Police say the investigation is ongoing.
