Police: Palmyra man assaulted a police officer

A Palmyra man is under arrest, accused of assaulting a police officer.  

New York State Police say 30-year-old Dwayne Woolfolk faces charges for assaulting a police officer.

Investigators were called to the Arrow Mart Store at 150 North Main Street, Newark, New York, early Tuesday morning for a large disturbance.

When they arrived, Woolfolk punched another male in the back of the head and attempted to run away.

Woolfolk was caught by a Trooper and resisted arrest.  During the struggle, the Trooper sustained a serious injury to his left hand.  The Trooper was transported to the Newark-Wayne Community Hospital where he was treated and released.

Woolfolk faces Obstructing Governmental Administration, Resisting Arrest, Harassment in the second degree and Disorderly Conduct.

Woolfolk was arraigned in the Village of Newark Court, sent to the Wayne County Jail and is being held in lieu of $5,000.00 bail. Woolfolk is due back in court Wednesday.
