It took Ed Griffin-Nolan less than three weeks to travel from his Pompey home to San Francisco by hitchhiking.

Dozens of people helped along the way. The 61-year old had been recreating a similar hitchhiking trip he took with a friend 40 years ago.

“I think, what I believed, that there was still a road where people would treat one another as a stranger and welcome them in. Now I know is there,” Griffin-Nolan said.

Griffin-Nolan spent time with family in San Francisco upon arrival, but he didn’t have that exact destination in mind.

Later this summer, Griffin-Nolan say he’s planning another hitchhiking trip in a new direction.
