Redesign of twenty dollar bill pushed back to 2028

Local News

UNITED STATES (WSYR-TV) — The redesigned twenty dollar bill featuring Harriet Tubman will not debut next year following an announcement by Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin that the new currency won’t be unveiled until 2028.

Officials wanted the new twenty to come out in 2020 on the centennial anniversary of the 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote.

Mnuchin responded saying the main purpose for the redesign is actually to combat counterfeit bills.

The new design would replace President Andrew Jackson on the front of the bill with Tubman, though Jackson would still appear on the back of the bill.
