(WSYR-TV) — High school softball, baseball, and golf teams are having to cut down or reschedule games because of the snow and rain this spring, but the state is stepping in to try and help these outdoor teams out.
We’ve got 105 districts within Section III, and I think this weather has affected all 105 schools,” said John Rathbun, executive director of Section III athletics.
While bad weather isn’t a new issue in CNY, it’s been especially impactful on the spring sports season this year.
“Last year the max games a school can play in baseball and softball is 20. We didn’t have one baseball program that played 20 games last year because of wet weather, and we won’t even come close to it this year …” Rathbun said.
Rathbun says there are potential changes being made to sectionals like eliminating game requirements, and even running an open tournament for softball and baseball so teams can get games in.
