MANLIUS, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — The road to recovery can be windy and uncertain, but one local organization is trying to help addicts get on the right path.
Road2Recovery CNY hosted its second free family recovery program at the Center of Grace in Manlius on Sunday.
The day-long program is designed to give support to those helping a loved one with an addiction, reminding them to care for themselves and work through their guilt, confusion and the stigma that surrounds their experience.
“When it’s addiction, it’s like hush hush. Part of what we’re doing is trying to get that out there, to reduce the stigma. For people to realize it’s ok to share your story because when you do, it has less power over you and you can start to recover yourself,” said Darlene Endy, CEO of Road2Recovery CNY.
Specialists showed families how to use Narcan and gave them options of alternative healing methods, like Reiki.
