Rochester City Court Judge Leticia Astacio appeared in court Thursday for a sentencing hearing.
And, after her sentencing, drama ensued.
Astacio spent the last month in jail awaiting the hearing after Judge Aronson found she violated the terms of her release after pleading guilty to a DWI. During her release, Judge Aronson ordered a test, but she was in Thailand and failed to take the test.
Since her last court appearance, Astacio fired her attorney Ed Fiandach and hired Bridget Field. Thursday was Astacio’s first appearance with Field, who requested to set aside the verdict. Field cited her predecessor’s improper filing and cited a breach of attorney, client privilege. However, Judge Aronson denied the motion.
Field told the court Astacio completed her community service and is no longer driving. Astacio has apparently transferred ownership of her car to her sister. Field also maintained the media coverage and public scrutiny was a form of punishment.
Astacio also spoke at her sentencing, telling Judge Aronson she did not intend to seem arrogant.
However, Judge Aronson felt Astacio failed to express any remorse. He sentenced her to 60 days in jail, 3 years probation and 6 months wearing an ankle bracelet.
At that time Astacio asked for straight time, but Aronson declined. When Field said Astacio would violate probation, Judge Aronson said he would then see Astacio back for violations.
The drama continued after sentencing when Astacio’s daughter was taken away in handcuffs for cursing at the Judge. However, Judge Aronson did not want her arrested and she was not held in contempt.
