SARATOGA, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Gates are now open at the Saratoga Race Course for the first day of the 40-day racing season. Thousands of people are filling the track for the 10 races on Thursday.
Even though the track opened Thursday morning, the party began Wednesday night with a very popular fundraiser known as Siro’s Cup. The sound of music brought limousines and a sharply dressed crowd to the unofficial start of the track season. They got to enjoy some food and bid on auction items with the money going to the Center for Disability Services.
The course opened 150 years ago and was named one of the world’s greatest sporting venues by Sports Illustrated.
