The boys lacrosse sectional finals proved to be every bit as good as advertised on Thursday. The top two seeds squared off in three of the four classes and all four games ended up being decided by a single goal.
In Class A, Baldwinsville claimed just its second sectional title in program history and first since 1992. Spencer Wirtheim found Austin Bolton for what turned out to be the game-winner as the Bees denied the Wildcats their 34th sectional title, taking it 10-9.
The drought wasn’t quite as long for ESM, but 13 years is still a pretty significant wait. The Spartans got four goals from Derrek Madonna and three goals from Luke Rosaschi as ESM won its first section crown since 2004, edging Auburn 7-6.
In Class C, Jamesville-DeWitt rallied from down three goals in the fourth quarter to beat Homer. The Red Rams closed the game on a 4-0 run. Ryan Archer led the way with four points on two goals and two assists. It’s the ninth straight sectional championship for the Red Rams.
The best game of the day may have taken place in Class D. Westhill, looking to avenge its only loss of the season, scored late to force overtime. With just seven seconds left in the second overtime though, Ben McCreary won it for CBA. The Brothers advance with a 10-9 victory and claim their first sectional title in a decade.
