A Seneca Falls mother has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in connection with the deadly beating of her 3-year-old son.
Officers say they were first called to a home in May for a report of a child that had fallen down stairs.
While being treated, police say doctors found the boy’s injuries were not consistent with a fall.
Police say the child had suffered significant trauma to the head and body, and that he was unresponsive when they found him.
Bovio agreed to plead guilty to second-degree manslaughter in exchange for a maximum state prison sentence of four to 12 years.
Under the plea, Bovio agreed to cooperate with law enforcement and agreed to testify against co-defendant Donald Bovio.
Alison Bovio was indicted as an accomplice, and she admitted at the plea proceeding that she was present when Donald Bovio caused blunt force trauma to the child’s head
Alison is the boy’s biological mother; Donald is the stepfather. Donald Bovio has an extensive criminal history in Salem, Mass.
Donald Bovio is expected to appear in court on Oct. 18. Alison is expected to testify as a prosecution witness at that meeting.
