Solvay Police make arrest in case of neglected pig

Local News

Solvay Police have arrested two people for allegedly neglecting a pig for weeks inside a home.

Officers were called to a home in Solvay on Hall Avenue where they found a pig inside a house that hadn’t been occupied in more than three weeks.

Investigators say the pig was eating the floor, and there were feces and urine throughout the home.

The pig is now being cared for at the CNY SPCA.

37-year-old Lisa Lagoci and 35-year-old William Ekstrand turned themselves in to police on Tuesday morning.

The pair were charged with third-degree criminal mischief, conspiracy, abandonment of an animal, failure to provide adequate food and drink, and keeping of exotic animals.

Those who work at the SPCA don’t know if the pig has a name. One of the staff members has been helping plan out the pig’s diet. It is being kept in a dog kennel with plenty of blankets and food.

Lagoci and Ekstrand are awaiting arraignment.
