State Police investigating fraud complaint in Lysander

LYSANDER, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — New York State Police are investigating a fraud complaint in Lysander.

On May 20th, An 86-year-old Lysander man received a call from someone claiming that the man’s grandson had been in an accident and needed $900 to cover the medical expenses. 

The person on the phone instructed the man to head to Kinney Drugs in Baldwinsville and send the money via a Western Union wire transfer.

The complainant’s son was able to contact Western Union to get the transfer canceled and get the man a refund.

Troopers say the number the caller used was a “Text Mail Subscriber” and not traceable to anyone.
