A Minoa man is facing a DWAI-drugs charge after New York State Police say he crashed into a utility pole, causing damage and then leaving the scene.
Troopers say it was just before 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16, when a witness saw a white Chevrolet Tahoe crash into the utility pole and then leave the scene with heavy front-end damage.
The witness followed the SUV to a residence on Smith Ridge Road in the town of Sullivan, Madison County.
A trooper responded to the residence and located the damaged Tahoe and the driver, Michael A. Hernandez, 44, of Minoa.
Police say the trooper noticed that Hernandez appeared to be impaired by something other than alcohol and learned Hernandez had ingested a quantity of prescription medication prior to the crash.
Sobriety tests indicated Hernandez was impaired and he was taken into custody for DWAI-drugs where he was evaluated.
Hernandez was ticketed for DWAI-drugs and leaving the scene of a property damage accident and is scheduled to appear in Sullivan town court next month.
