Steering malfunction to blame for Cortland County crash

CORTLAND COUNTY, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — A steering malfunction is to blame for a crash along Truxton Tully Road in Cortland County on Thursday.

Sheriff’s deputies say that steering issue caused Caitlin McQuilkenscholze, 21, of Fairport, to cross into the oncoming lane, hitting a car driven by Walter Farnholtz, 82, of Tully, head on

McQuilkenscholze was taken by helicopter to Upstate from serious injuries. She is expected to recover. Farnholtz and his passenger were taken to Upstate by ambulance for minor injuries.

The crash is still under investigation.
