A temporary waffle on the menu at Funk ‘n Waffles in downtown Syracuse was raising money for a good cause.
8th grade students from Wellwood Middle School showed off their creativity by creating a Southern Pulled Pork Waffle, which included a crisp hash brown waffle topped with pulled pork.
It was featured at the restaurant Sunday and all the proceeds were donated to Hopeprint, which helps resettled refugees in the city of Syracuse.
They raised several hundred dollars for the organization.
The 8th graders collaborated for about 2 weeks before their creations were presented to a group of judges at the end of January.
Entrees included Wild West Waffles, Sm’affles, Let’s TACO ‘bout WAFFLES, but the best overall waffle was awarded to the Southern Pulled Pork Waffle.
Hopeprint helps refugees learn English, tutors refugee students and offers literacy lessons for young children.
