SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Syracuse University has appointed the school’s first chief diversity and inclusion officer.

It’s part of a plan to make sure students, faculty and staff feel safe and supported while at SU.

Dr. Keith Alford will report directly to Chancellor Kent Syverud, overseeing and leading services, programs and policies that keep up with the university’s commitment to diversity and creating an inclusive environment.

Alford has been serving as an interim leader since July of last year.
