SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Just because school is out for the summer, it doesn’t mean it’s time for kids to stop learning. So why not bring together superheroes and super readers?
The Literacy Coalition of Onondaga County is working to make sure kids stay excited about reading, keeping up those important skills outside of the classroom and also getting the whole family on board.
“Get the parents to get reading, get nighttime books, everybody reading in the house because kids imitate their parents all the time. If they see you reading, they’re going to want to read,” said Amanda Schiavulli, Coordinator for Member Services, Onondaga County Public Library.
Kids at Tuesday’s event also got to take home free books to continue work on reading skills with their family. There was also face painting and arts and crafts, all centered around the superhero theme.
