Syracuse Common Council votes to bring 5G technology to the city

Local News

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — The Syracuse Common Council has voted in favor of 5G, meaning faster connection speeds when it comes to cell phones and data.

Syracuse will need to have transmitters placed ever block or so.

This vote gives the city some oversight on Verizon’s project, giving them a say in how it all works.

“With this step, we can see progress more quickly for the city and implementing new technologies that can help us be more competitive on a national and global marketplace,” said Greg Loh, Chief Policy Officer.

The process moves to permitting next before it can actually get up and running.

There is no work on exactly when it will all be completed.
