Syracuse Crunch staff work tirelessly in their playoff run

The Syracuse Crunch are gearing up for what they hope will be three straight sellouts at the Onondaga County War Memorial starting Wednesday night.

The Crunch are down 0-2 in the Calder Cup Finals but host Games 3, 4 and hopefully 5 on Saturday.

It’s the culmination of a playoff run that started all the way back on April 21st and not just for the players but the staff too.

Syracuse Crunch COO Jim Sarosy tells NewsChannel 9, “Days are 6am and we’re shutting it down 9 or 10 at night and spinning it right back the next day and like I say its 7 weeks straight now.”

Come playoff time the Crunch staff, like any other organization, has to promote and sell each and every game on its own and the playoff schedule can sometimes leave them with only 48 or even 24 hours to sell a game.

“We’re blessed in the fact that we’ve done a number of big events in this area like a couple All-Star games, The Dome game, the Outdoor Game.  We were in the finals 5 years ago and we’ve had some other long playoff runs so we do have a little bit of a veteran group which does help the process.”  Sarosy says.

The players say the War Memorial crowds, especially in the playoffs, make a big difference for them on the ice.”

Goalie Mike McKenna says, “We’re excited, I know we’re going to have a great crowd and it’ll be loud in here.  It’ll be fun.”

“Fan support here has been excellent especially in the playoffs and we’re excited to be home, we’re a little more confident here playing at home.”  Adds Center Cory Conacher.

Defenseman Matt Taormina tells NewsChannel 9, “We feed off the crowd, we’ve been doing it all playoffs long and they’re a big energy boost for us that’s one of the key reason we’re so successful at home.”

The Crunch are undefeated at home in these playoffs with a perfect 9-0 record at the War Memorial.

Sarosy says there are still some tickets available to Games 3 and 4 but expects when the puck drops each game will be sold out.

If the Crunch win Wednesday or Friday they’ll play Game 5 at the War Memorial Saturday night.
