Gun violence is the reason Governor Andrew Cuomo says he wants insurance companies and banks license in New York, to reconsider doing business with the National Rifle Association. He directed the department that regulates those companies to pass along the information.
The news was not well received at the Syracuse Gun Show this weekend.
Vendors set up 1,000 exhibits, where people can browse or buy military arms, shotguns, and gun parts.
One visitor summed up his thoughts on the governor’s decision.
“We live in the United States. We have the freedom of choice,” said Richard Diponzio. “That’s why we came here and I don’t think the government has any right to sit there and dictate to a company what they want to do with their money.”
The governor’s office says the companies are being urged to “consider reputational risk and promote corporate responsibility.”
