(WSYR-TV) — The Syracuse New Times will print its final newspaper on June 26th.  The announcement was made by  publisher Bill Brod Wednesday afternoon. The New Times served the central New York community for more than 50 years..

The Syracuse New Times newspaper started on the campus of Syracuse University in February 1969.

In March they switched from a free delivery model to a subscription and news-stand sales business model due to “declining print advertising revenue and market pressure from the technology sector.”

“Initially subscription sign-ups took off, but have since flattened out, while newsstand and over the counter sales at over 330 locations have remained modest at best. It has become clear that our other niche publications, including our parenting publication and our association journals, would be better served by redeploying our human capital and financial resources to focus on these publications.” — Bill Brod
