Syracuse University officials submitted their plan to replace the Carrier Dome roof to the Syracuse City Planning Commission Tuesday evening.

Before they raise the roof, the project needs approval from the city. The University says since their May announcement, it’s been working closely with city officials to make sure the nearly $120-million dollar project goes ahead without a hitch.

“We’re so excited about this project,” said Pete Sala, Managing Director of the Carrier Dome. “It’s just, we’re so grateful to be able to work with the city of Syracuse and the county to move this project forward and this project benefits the entire city, the university, this whole community benefits from the project.”

Following the presentation, the Planning Commission gave its approval for SU to move forward with the project..

SU is still working on what materials will be used in the project which would lead to a 40 to 50 year solution on keeping the Dome around.
